The 7 CD-ROM-series "50 Years of Beatles Music" is a unique documentary of the Fab Four´s artistic activities from the very beginnings up to the date.

On this website, I proudly present what might be the world´s largest data base concerning the musical careers of the Fab Four! "50 YEARS OF BEATLES MUSIC" traces the lives and musical activities of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr from the very first steps back in 1957 to the present.

History and idea: The original idea behind the book was to organize my own Beatles collection and to find out what was missing. In the end, the whole thing became a 2-volume book of approx. 2000 print pages, called "30 Years of Beatles Music", and distributed by mail order back in 1987. "50 YEARS OF BEATLES MUSIC" is the follow-up of that first attempt. It is designed to give you an idea of what has been recorded and where and how it was released all over the years - and that is more than impressing! "50 Years" is the fruit of decades of hard work, endless research and sometimes awesome layout business - and of big, big fun after all!

The contents: "50 YEARS OF BEATLES MUSIC" gives you all sorts of data. In strong chronological order, it traces the Fab Four´s musical activities day by day, including live appearances, home recordings, studio sessions, guest appearances, interviews, press conferences, record releases, broadcasts. All tracks known to exist are listed, including home demos, outtakes, alternate mixes, and released takes. Furthermore, each track is documented in separate discographies, including original USA, UK and GER releases, broadcasts, compilations, documentaries, rereleases, and the endless parade of bootlegs - as complete as possible (data deadline for these discographies by now: 31.12.2001).

The design: In the twenty years since "30 Years" many things have changed. Not only we had the bliss of much more Beatles music to surface and the sad loss of George Harrison, but also a revolution in computer technology. As the result, "50 YEARS OF BEATLES MUSIC" won´t be published in printed form but as a series of 7 interactive CD-ROMs (CD 1: 1957-1964/CD 2: 1965-1969/ CD 3: 1970-1979/ CD 4: 1980-1989/ CD 5: 1990-1999/ CD 6: 2000-2009/ CD 7: 2010-2019).

Layout and format: "50 YEARS OF BEATLES MUSIC" comes as a mix of .htm and .pdf/.doc documents that allows to find any date and activity quickly and precisely. To make the huge amount of data "digestible", I decided to develop a special multicolour layout. To make the whole thing even more attractive, there are many links to original interview clips and lots of photographs given as a bonus.

Research method: Each data entry given in "50 YEARS OF BEATLES MUSIC" is discussed with the methods of scientific comparison of the data sources available (such as books, discographies, fanzines). This makes the data base transparent. Still, there are lots of questions left unanswered, and this could make "50 Years" the start of a big endeavour. I want to invite all of you to improve the data base, supply corrections and additions and so take part in further upgrades and updates. My plan is to give reduction for these to everyone taking in this big job!

State of development (January, 2015): The first six CD-ROMs (1957-2009) are out, no. 7 is due out 2020.

Volume 2 (2005): "Get Back To Abbey Road" (1965-1969)

"After a long period of busy working, I am proud to announce today "50 Years of Beatles Music, vol.2 - Get Back to Abbey Road (1965-1969)." As many of you know already vol.1 of this 5-CDR data base, I am sure this news will rise your interest again. Vol.2 was a special hard one to work out, since the Get Back Sessions had totally to be re-written. This alone took me about half a year. For better reading, I separated the Get Back Sessions as we knew them before the issue of the Yellow Dog Day-by-Day series and the famous books of Doug Sulpy dealing with this subject and put them into a separate file called "1969 January old" - presented with all the old questionmarks....After all, I am pleased with the results, and so are you, I hope! As in volume one, the database includes concerts, studio work, demos, interviews, speeches, and so on... Moreover, you get a lot of sound files presenting interviews, a lot of covers and photographs.

All data is presented as Word- and as .pdf documents. A major improvement is presented in the .pdf files which are fully indexed now. Just click on "bookmarks" and find the most important entries instantly (Thanks to Evelyn Schwarz for her suggestions!!!)." - Kurt Erlemann, Herzkamp, September 2005
